Candidates from Myanmar can apply to polytechnics with two different qualifications.

1. Myanmar Matriculation Examination (Old system 10^th Standard / Grade 11)

a)        Candidates should obtain 70% in Maths and 70% in English in matriculation exam. For those students whose English score is less than 70, should apply with IELTS ( minimum overall score 6.0, individual section 6.0) or TOEFL ( minimum score 78).

b)        The total matriculation mark should be at least 460 as candidacy is competitive though polytechnics officially requested minimum 420.

c)        Shortlisted candidates are required to take Harmonized Entrance Test usually in February. 

d)        The application period is around end of October
The entrance test is the harmonized test of 3 papers (English, Mathematics and Science) taken in single seating for all polytechnics.

e)          English test paper can be exempted in entrance test for candidates with IELTS or TOEFL.

2. International General Certificate of Secondary Education (IGCSE)

a)        Students required to submit five subjects results taken in single sitting.

b)        Either CAIE or Edexcel IGCSE results are accepted.

c)        Five subjects should be English, 2 relevant subjects and 2 subjects of best scores (ELR2B2)

d)        English has to be English as First Language (EFL).

e)        NO entrance test is required to take for candidates with IGCSE results.

f)     Candidates with English as Second Language (ESL) may take IELTS to apply.
